We have been reading The Giver in class. This is what i think.
Jonas has a different relationship with the Giver then he does with his family. In his family, they don’t love each other because the community doesn’t let the people feel love. His parents didn’t birth him. He and his sister were not born from the same mother. His parents didn’t chose to be married. It was chosen for them. In the book, when Jonas asks his parents if they love him, they tell him he is not using precise language. He should have asked do you enjoy me, or do you take pride in my accomplishments, but to say love within the community is not proper. When he is with the Giver however, it changes. The Giver becomes attached to the next receiver. Both the Giver and Jonas feel love so they can love each other, while the community can’t. They hold special memories that they both have, but no one else has.
